Szenisches Lernen im Fremdsprachenunterricht: die Evaluation eines Schulversuchs

"Das von Lehrern eines Gymnasiums entwickelte und eingesetzte Verfahren des Szenischen Lernens (SL) in der Fremdsprachendidaktik verknüpft Sprache mit Bewegung und fordert von Schülern einen hohen Sprechanteil. Dieser Artikel evaluiert die Wirkung dieses Verfahrens auf die Behaltensleistung von Vokabeln im Lateinunterricht (Studie 1) und auf die Aussprache beim Lesen eines französischen Textes (Studie 2). An Studie 1 nahmen 137 Schüler aus sechs Klassen teil. Die 65 Schüler der Experimentalgruppe (Jahrgangsstufen 7, 8 und 9) hatten die Vokabeln szenisch gelernt und konnten sich nach 13 Wochen noch an durchschnittlich 15 von 20 Vokabeln erinnern. Die Schüler der Kontrollgruppe wussten im Durchschnitt von diesen Vokabeln nur noch 5,5. An der Studie 2 nahmen 85 Schüler aus vier Klassen teil. 45 Schüler aus den Jahrgangsstufen 6 und 7 bildeten die Versuchsgruppe und wurden mit SL unterrichtet. Sie erhielten im Vergleich zur Kontrollgruppe bessere Expertenbewertungen für das Lesen eines französischen Textes hinsichtlich z.B. phonetische Korrektheit, Sprachfluss und Sinnverständnis. Beide Studien zeigen die Überlegenheit des Szenischen Lernens im Vergleich zu traditionellen Methoden, die die Wortschatzarbeit nicht mit körperlicher Aktion und intensivem chorischen Sprechen verbinden." (Autorenreferat)"Scenic Learning (SL) is a technique involving choral recitals of vocabulary accompanied by meaningful gestures and movements. This technique was developed and implemented by teachers in a secondary school who used it, for instance, in teaching a second language. This paper evaluates the impact of this technique on memorizing Latin vocabulary (study 1) and on pronunciation in reading a French text (study 2). 137 students in six classes took part in study 1. The experimental group (65 students, grades 7, 8 and 9) acquired vocabulary with the SL technique. After 13 weeks, the scenic learners retained an average of 15 (of a total of 20 words), compared to the control group with only 5.5 of these words. 85 students in four classes took part in study 2. The experimental group (45 students, grades 6 and 7) read a French text with the SL technique. Experts who rated their audio tapes awarded the scenic readers better marks than the students from the control group in regard to pronunciation and other aspects. Das Demonstrationsnetzwerk DemoNetErBo hat zum Ziel, den Anbau und die Verwertung von Körnererbsen und Ackerbohnen in Deutschland nachhaltig zu steigern und zu verbessern. Dazu werden Wertschöpfungsketten für regional erzeugte Hülsenfrüchte entwickelt und optimiert, wofür die Kenntnis sogenannter kritischer Erfolgsfaktoren, die diesen Prozess von Anbau über Verarbeitung bis hin zur Vermarktung hemmen oder fördern, unerlässlich ist. Beispielhaft wird die unterschiedliche Situation in ökologischen und konventionellen Wertschöpfungsketten betrachtet

Mild hypothermia provides Treg stability

Regulatory T cells (Tregs) play crucial role in maintenance of peripheral tolerance. Recent clinical trials confirmed safety and efficacy of Treg treatment of deleterious immune responses. However, Tregs lose their characteristic phenotype and suppressive potential during expansion ex vivo. Therefore, multiple research teams have been studding Treg biology in aim to improve their stability in vitro. In the current paper, we demonstrate that mild hypothermia of 33 °C induces robust proliferation of Tregs, preserves expression of FoxP3, CD25 and Helios, and prevents TSDR methylation during culture in vitro. Tregs expanded at 33 °C have stronger immunosuppressive potential and remarkably anti-inflammatory phenotype demonstrated by the whole transcriptome sequencing. These observations shed new light on impact of temperature on regulation of immune response. We show that just a simple change in temperature can preserve Treg stability, function and accelerate their proliferation, responding to unanswered question- how to preserve Treg stability in vitro

Feminizing adrenal tumor identified by plasma steroid profiling

Feminizing estrogen-secreting adrenocortical carcinomas (ACCs) are exceedingly rare and carry a poor prognosis. The most common presenting trait is gynecomastia, but enlarged breasts are also a frequent clinical finding in healthy men. Biochemical evaluation may be challenging. As such, there is a high risk of delayed diagnosis and treatment opportunity. Here, we present a case with an estrogen-producing ACC where the abnormal steroid profile obtained at the time of initial workup was essential for the prompt diagnosis. Wider adoption of liquid chromatography mass spectrometry-based steroid assays has potential to improve early diagnosis of feminizing estrogen-secreting ACC.publishedVersio

Accidental Hypothermia in a Swiss Alpine Trauma Centre-Not an Alpine Problem.

BACKGROUND Research in accidental hypothermia focuses on trauma patients, patients exposed to cold environments or patients after drowning but rarely on hypothermia in combination with intoxications or on medical or neurological issues. The aim of this retrospective single-centre cohort study was to define the aetiologies, severity and relative incidences of accidental hypothermia, methods of measuring temperature and in-hospital mortality. METHODS The study included patients ≥18 years with a documented body temperature ≤35 °C who were admitted to the emergency department (ED) of the University Hospital in Bern between 2000 and 2019. RESULTS 439 cases were included, corresponding to 0.32 per 1000 ED visits. Median age was 55 years (IQR 39-70). A total of 167 patients (38.0%) were female. Furthermore, 63.3% of the patients suffered from mild, 24.8% from moderate and 11.9% from severe hypothermia. Exposure as a single cause for accidental hypothermia accounted for 12 cases. The majority were combinations of hypothermia with trauma (32.6%), medical conditions (34.2%), neurological conditions (5.2%), intoxications (20.3%) or drowning (12.0%). Moral Reasoning in Psychopaths

Patienten mit der psychischen Störung „Psychopathie“ zeigen ein Muster von emotionaler Abgestumpftheit, Impulsivität und unmoralischem Verhalten. Zur Untersuchung moralischen Urteilens wurden in der vorliegenden Studie alltagsrelevante Konflikte mit moralischem bzw. neutralem Inhalt entwickelt und 12 „psychopathischen“ forensischen Patienten sowie 12 nicht-psychopathischen forensischen Patienten präsentiert. „Psychopathische“ im Vergleich zu nicht-psychopathischen Patienten berichteten signifikant positivere Gefühle bei unmoralischen Entscheidungen als Nicht-Psychopathen. Außerdem wurden in der Gruppe der „Psychopathen“ im Vergleich zu den Nicht-Psychopathen signifikant häufiger unmoralische Entscheidungen auf moralische Konflikte getroffen. Diese Befunde deuten darauf hin, dass eine Störung der Emotionsverarbeitung ursächlich für dissoziales Verhalten bei „Psychopathen“ sein könnte.Psychopathic patients show a behavioral pattern that is characterized by indifference, impulsivity and antisocial behavior. To investigate moral reasoning we developed conflicts of everyday life with either moral or neutral content. These conflicts were then presented to a group of 12 psychopathic forensic patients as well as to a group of 12 non-psychopathic forensic patients.Psychopathic compared to non-psychopathic patients reported significantly higher positive feelings when choosing an immoral response alternative than non-psychopaths. Furthermore, psychopaths picked significantly more often an immoral response alternative in the conflicts with moral content than did the non-psychopaths. These results indicate that impairment in emotional processing abilities may be at the core of antisocial behavior in psychopathy
